Ongoing ‘Potrika Porbo’ magazine fair in Bengal Boi

Bengal Boi is organizing a magazine fair, ‘Potrika Porbo’, at their premises in Dhanmondi until Saturday 4th December. Popular publications such as Ikri Mikri, Jol Pore Pata Nore, Bigyan Chinta, Kishor Alo, Dhaka Comics, Unmad and Kali O Kolom have set up stands on the site. Products on display include new and old issues, books and other merchandise. The fair starts at 4 p.m. on weekdays and is open all day on weekends.

Through the fair, Bengal Boi intends to encourage young readers to read magazines and promote local publications.

Known for hosting literary events year round, Bengal Boi this winter is focused on promoting magazines. “Reading magazines is a lost pastime and we want to revive this industry through our initiative. We are happy to share that readers are enjoying the fair,” said Golam Sarwar Farouqui, COO, Bengal Boi Ltd.

The fair has proven to be more popular among young readers who enthusiastically collect their favorite issues and discover new comics.

Participating publications pointed out that initiatives like these are helping them revive readership after the financial losses caused by the pandemic. Although attendance was remarkable, several stand representatives shared their concerns about the proper promotion of the event.

Most publications offer lucrative discounts on their products, which is a great opportunity for readers to claim their favorite copies. Kishor Alo and Bigyan Chinta are offering 15 BDT off all old editions of their monthly publications. Kali o Kolom and Jol Pore Pata Nore offer 50% discount on all products.

The Durjoy series has been a popular choice among buyers at the Dhaka Comics booth. They are currently offering 25% off these comics. Their sets of books, ‘Comics Ek Baksho‘, are available at 30% off their original prices. Likewise, Unmad is offering a 20% promotional discount on their Film Collection, Mixed Collection, Graphic Novel and Popular Book, Friend Unmad Na.

Bengal Boi plans to host the fair again next year, with more publishers.
