Himesh Patel was baffled to be cast alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in ‘Don’t Look Up’.
The 31-year-old actor is amazed at his success in Hollywood and despite a string of blockbuster movies behind him, he’s still impressed to be among such big names.
He said: “When they released the cast list for Don’t Look Up, I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? And then they pulled out a grid of all of our faces, and mine was there and I was like, “What? What?” And I’m still a bit like that.
Himesh also has a cameo role in ‘Ten Percent’, the British remake of the French comedy ‘Call Me Agent’, with stars such as Dominic West and Helena Bonham Carter also making an appearance, and that was another project for which he was shocked. .
He told The Times magazine: “I thought, ‘Why are you asking me?’ Especially when Jim Broadbent plays someone else [the founder of the agency]not Jim Broadbent, and I’m kidding myself.
The actor rose to fame playing Tamwar Masood in ‘EastEnders’ and he believes there is still a prejudice against people who started their careers in soap, which he says stems from ‘snobbery’.
He said: “I think there’s always a perception in our industry of the kind of actors that make EastEnders, or what kind of show EastEnders is, the perceived quality of it versus something like , say, “The Crown”.
The “Yesterday” star considers his years on the show an apprenticeship in acting.
He said: “[I want to] giving access to young people and demystifying it, decelebrating it, it’s not a word, but you know what I mean. It’s wonderful work, but the work is not glamorous.
And he admitted he fears his association with the program could prevent his career from progressing.
He added: “There was a fear for me when I left, saying, ‘Is this going to stop me from doing stuff? ”
