FFXIV Developers Confirm New Endwalker Story Content Is On The Way

In an interview with Famitsu magazine, Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) screenwriter Natsuko Ishikawa has revealed that the team plans to release a new story tied to the main plot of the Endwalker expansion. Ishikawa also explained the meaning of some key lines from the expansion’s ending scenes. Additionally, producer Naoki Yoshida gave some hints about the types of battles players might face next. During the interview, Ishikawa revealed that Emet-Selch’s last lines to the player were actually a message to the rest of the FFXIV staff, to continue to create stories with the material they have put together. Ishikawa explained that she didn’t want the team to feel the story was over. Lead Story Designer Banri Oda added that several continents already exist in the world that players have yet to explore.

Additionally, Ishikawa revealed that a new “additional” story relating to the events of Endwalker is already planned for FFXIV. Specifically, it will be a detailed, smaller-scale story. It is unknown when this new story will appear in future updates. Notably, Ishikawa also mentioned that, if Hermes hadn’t started the Last Days, the world might have become similar to the one shown at the end of The Dead Ends dungeon.

On battles, Yoshida addressed concerns about who the player will fight next. Yoshida said there are still various possibilities, just like in the past Final Fantasy The titles even led players to struggle against the personification of the Void. However, Yoshida also clarified that he doesn’t think continually inflating the scale of the story and creating stronger bosses is a good idea.

Final Fantasy XIV is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. The Little Ladies Day event is ongoing and will run until March 31, 2022.
